ACL Reconstruction

The knee is very stressed during walking or running and can withstand great stresses, it must be particularly stable to avoid falls. This stability is partly achieved by the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, which hold the tibia forward and backward. The rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament is often related to trauma.

For the 17th consecutive year, the Bordeaux-Merignac Sport Clinic is ranked No. 1 for knee ligaments surgery (ranking Le Point 2017)

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can be injured in several ways : changing direction rapidly, stopping suddenly, landing from a jump incorrectly, direct contact or collision, such as football tackle.

Over time, the knee can function fairly normally or present dysfunctions up to the instability that can be penalizing in your professional or sports life. This instability can also be the cause of associated menisci lesions and the development of osteoarthritis

The procedure commonly practiced at the Bordeaux-Merignac Sport Clinic consists in reconstructing the ruptured ligament using a graft taken from the hamstring tendons at the back of the thigh.

Arthroscopic technique : A miniature camera is inserted through a small incision (portal), then your surgeon inserts miniature surgical instruments through other portals.

The first stage of operation is that of the removal and preparation of the graft.
A tunnel is then drilled in the femur and one in the tibia in which the graft fixed by endoboutton and resorbable screw will be inserted.
