Dupuytren’s disease

Dupuytren’s disease is an affection of the palmar aponeurosis, a fibrous sheath that surrounds and protects the muscles, nerves and vessels in the hand and the flexor tendons that bend the fingers.

Dupuytren’s disease causes a thickening of the aponeurosis and the formation of small nodules under the skin of the palm.

As Dupuytren’s disease progresses, bands of fascia in the palm develop into thick cords that will prevent the fingers from unfolding completely. The evolution is progressive and rarely painful but the gene can obviously become important.

To make a precise diagnosis, your surgeon will rely primarily on clinical examination and an in-depth questionnaire on the circumstances of symptom onset. He can rely on additional examinations such as an ultrasound.

Inquire in advance is mandatory to perform the most appropriate examination.
