Stabilization by Latarjet & Bony-Bankart

When the humeral head dislocates and leaves the cavity of the glenoid, it is said that the shoulder "is instable". If the first shoulder dislocation is usually accidental, the repetition of the phenomenon can lead to significant bone, cartilage and ligament lesions

The two most common surgical techniques of shoulder stabilization are :

Latarjet (named after the physician who described the method in 1954) consists in a bone graft placed at the anterior edge of the glenoid. This abutment extends the surface of the glenoid and prevents the humeral head from dislocation or subluxation.

Bankart procedure consists of tightening the ligament capsule.

For several decades, the superiority of one technique over the other has been widely discussed in the international medical world.

At the Bordeaux-Merignac Sport Clinic, shoulder specialists surgeons have decided to perform a procedure combining the best of these two techniques

The Latarjet procedure is performed first : the lower end of the coracoid process is removed and reattached over the front of the glenoid with 2 screws.

The second operative stage is that of Bankart procedure : the ligaments are reattached and tightened with two anchors

Resorbable points placed under the skin, with no visible points or staples, make the closure of the incision, so the post-operative scar will be as aesthetic as possible.
