Rupture of the biceps brachii

The biceps brachii intervenes in the functioning of the shoulder and elbow where it has a role in flexion (bending the arm) and supination (palm up rotation). The rupture mostly involves very active men or sportsmen.

The causes of rupture of the tendon of the biceps brachii can be multiple but the circumstances are almost always those of a rather intense effort of uplift.

The pain felt is very acute and a hematoma frequently appears within hours.
It is advisable to consult promptly as the surgical procedure will produce better results in the first three weeks after the rupture.

During the consultation, your surgeon will perform a clinical examination to test the damaged tendon and MRI will be very useful in evaluating the size of the lesion and the degree of retraction.

Surgical Treatment

The procedure consists in re-inserting the tendon by attaching it by means of fixation systems on the radius.

At the Bordeaux-Merignac Sport Clinic this procedure is performed as outpatient basis
